Living in Nigeria is a daily testament to resilience. Amidst the struggle for survival, navigating a landscape marked by instability, and grappling with unreliable internet and employment, these challenges are not just hurdles—they are profound tests of the human spirit. The internet and steady work are not mere conveniences but essential lifelines that connect people to opportunities, information, and the possibility of a better tomorrow. Without them, the cycle of poverty tightens its grip, leaving many with limited means to rise above.

The internet serves as a bridge to a world of possibility, offering access to work, vital knowledge, and essential services. Without this bridge, countless individuals are isolated from the opportunities that could transform their lives.

In this reality, Nigeria’s legal system often leaves its citizens vulnerable, offering little in the way of protection against exploitation. Basic resources like internet access or communication devices remain out of reach for many. The ever-present threat of police brutality looms large, making even routine actions perilous, with arbitrary arrests, disappearances, and sinister realities like organ trafficking haunting the streets. Hospitals, too, reflect this fragility, often failing to meet even basic healthcare needs, while the privileged seek care abroad, leaving the majority to fend for themselves.

In a place where peaceful protests are met with violence and speaking out can have dire consequences, justice becomes a privilege reserved for those with the right connections. Reporting a crime can often result in further victimization. Exploitative policies, such as taxing already struggling citizens, exacerbate the plight of the vulnerable, making even the demand for basic rights a dangerous endeavor.

As an intersex trans person, I have lived these harsh truths firsthand. The constant threat of violence drove me to seek safety over justice. even though I knew who stole my phones, but pursuing justice wasn’t an option when my life was at stake. In such an environment, remote work isn't a mere option—it’s a lifeline, a vital means of survival and sustenance.

For example, the frequent work requirements:

• A stable internet connection and a suitable home office setup for remote work.
• Flexibility to collaborate across different time zones with global teams.

These are more than technical needs; they are essential to navigating a society that demands resilience, discretion, and external support for survival.

Yet, amidst these daunting realities, I consciously choose to direct all my energy toward love.

I embrace the belief that where attention flows, energy grows. By choosing to amplify love, I aim to counteract the darkness that surrounds us. Love is not passive; it is an active, transformative force that, when magnified, can overshadow suffering and despair. Through love, I envision a gradual fading of negativity, as it begins to permeate every aspect of life.

Living in Nigeria may not be easy, but my purpose remains clear: to let love guide my journey and illuminate my path. I refuse to let the harshness of my environment extinguish my spirit. Instead, I strive to cultivate love, kindness, and positivity, with the understanding that in time, love will prevail.

Embracing love is the way forward. It serves as a beacon that dispels despair, revealing the true strength that lies within us.
